The American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children [APSAC] was incorporated in 1987 and now has more than 5,000 members in 43 state chapters -- child protective services workers, law enforcement personnel, psychologists, physicians, nurses, attorneys, teachers, researchers, administrators, clergy, and allied professionals. Diverse as they are, these professionals share a dedication to APSAC's mission of ensuring that everyone affected by child maltreatment receives the best possible professional response.

The Committee on Telemedical Services reports to the Council on Psychiatric Services of the American Psychiatric Association [APA]. Its mission is to monitor technologic developments, ethical issues, and medical/legal issues in telemedicine as they apply to psychiatry; review potential activities with other medical and governmental agencies and organizations, in concert with APA; educate the membership regarding benefits, disadvantages and barriers to telemedical applications; provide information regarding cost-effective videoconferencing for APA purposes.

The American Psychiatric Nurses Association provides leadership to advance psychiatric-mental health nursing practice, improve mental health care for individuals, families, groups and communities and shape health policy for the delivery of mental health services.

Goals:

• Facilitate the professional development of psychiatric-mental health nurses through programs and services related to the creation, exchange, and engineering of new knowledge and skills
• Enhance the quality of care provided by psychiatric-mental health nurses through the promotion of established standards of clinical practice and professional performance
• Participate as partners and leaders in the formulation of policies and the design, implementation and evaluation of delivery systems in psychiatric-mental health care
• Represent psychiatric-mental health nursing as a collective and integrated specialty in the professional and public forum of the health care community

American Psychiatrists for Neutrality on Abortion was established in 1991 to challenga and change the American Psychiatric Association's position on abortion. It believes the APA should take no official position on abortion and promote no particular public policy on abortion.
