The Rob Giel Onderzoekcentrum [RGOc] was co-founded by regional mental health organizations and the University of Groningen to stimulate and combine scientific research in the northern mental health organizations to improve treatment of psychiatric patients. The emphasis lies on longitudinal, controlled studies, which focus on (cost) effectiveness and consequences of health interventions.

Since 2000 RGOc has operated as part of the university's Department of Psychiatry. In addition to its 75 multidisciplinary staff personnel, RGOc works with members of the University Hospital.

The Bernard W Gimbel Multiple Sclerosis Comprehensive Care Center is the only not-for-profit facility licensed by the State of New Jersey for the comprehensive treatment of multiple sclerosis. The Center opened in 1985.

Objectives:

Since 1997 the Global Consortium for the Advancement of Promotion and Prevention in Mental Health [GCAPP] (formerly the Biennial Conference Committee) has been organizing international conferences focused on the promotion of mental health and prevention of mental and behavioral disorders on behalf of the World Federation for Mental Health, the Clifford Beers Foundation of the UK and the Carter Center.

An initiative is under way to expand the Consortium's network into a wider movement involving relevant international membership to improve needed synergy worldwide. GCAPP intends to serve as a catalyst, creating synergy across international organizations and borders to expand the capacity for developing, disseminating and implementing culturally tailored, effective interventions; to expand the knowledge base; and to facilitate advocacy and recognition, policy; delivery systems, training; and resources for mental health promotion and mental disorder prevention worldwide.
